I attended a Family Law Update seminar on November 30th. Thomas Trent Lewis, a highly regarded family law judge, revealed that he had started his new job as Presiding Judge of Family Law, Los Angeles County, that same day. Judge Lewis most recently worked at Central Civil West, where he was assigned long-cause family law matters.
Judge Lewis admitted that previous plans to move the Child Support Services Department cases out of Central Civil West had to be abandoned, as there were “too many people.” I spoke with a CSSD officer soon thereafter, and she agreed. We were on the 18th floor of the courthouse at the time, a space completely taken up by Department staff, along with a waiting room for litigants.
Best wishes to our new Presiding Judge, hoping for more sensible, practical actions.
