I opened the Wise Law Clinic on January 16, 2001, the day after Martin Luther King Day. One of the benefits of working for myself is being able to take the day off. Many law firms frown on white people honoring Dr. King and the “slave rebellion of the mid-twentieth century” (Baldwin) as a holiday.
I have never regretted opening my own office. Family law practice can be stressful, but it is also rewarding. There are many sad stories, but almost every time, the future can be better.
Thanks to my clients and friends who have helped me succeed in my venture. I am beyond resolutions, goals, and obsessions, but I have a new motto: The only necessity is the will to adapt.
